Trip to Utah - More Detailed Review

Well, now that we are fully recovered from our vacation (that's just the way it is sometimes!)...I can jot down a few notes about it.

Tuesday night was lucky enough to confirm the "older brother domination" law is still in effect. As Craig will confirm, the first victory of two fusball games was awarded to...(drumroll please)...me! Alas, the second went to Craig. We never did get to a third.

Wednesday was a lot of fun - we ran some errands, hung out with the Hanks family and saw Adam and Sara later than night. Adam was kind enough to remind us what types of activities one concentrates on before having kids when he showed us his metal ball-bouncing skills.

Thursday was spent mainly down in Provo. I did get to meet with Jared Horner, of the Sterling Financial Group, who offered me some tips on breaking into the wonderful world of financial planning. We got to spend a few minutes walking around BYU campus and were amazed that even MORE contsruction is underway. I'll be interested to see how the Tanner building looks after they complete the addition. (details: http://marriottschool.byu.edu/marriottmag/summer06/dean/index.cfm?loc=dean) We also got to spend some time downtown on Temple Square and took a tour of the conference center.

Friday we spent the majority of the day with the Hanks. We took our family pictures, hung out with Kevin & Naomi, Craig & his girlfriend Angie, and Janna (who declined multiple date invitations to hang out with Wesley). We saw Ocean's 13, and we all agreed it deserved a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

Wes was able to get in touch with his Polynesian roots thanks to Naomi, who made this awesome little outfit for him. We were all very impressed with her amazing sewing skills - even the pattern of the pocket on the front matched the shirt around it, which means that the wearer of the shirt is wealthy. I asked Wes to please inform me of the location of this wealth - so far, no luck.

See, bet you didn't even notice there was a shirt pocket, did you?

During all of this time we were able to get in some good "pounce time" with Mom and we even won a few games! (this despite the fact that she was organizing Sunday's musical number, getting all the food ready for all the guests, trying to get up in the middle of the night to take care of Wes so Natalie and I could have a few night's uninterrupted sleep, and doing all this without any cars. Big thanks to Dad, too, for taking off work to hang out and letting us sleep so much!)

Saturday we were finally able to spend a little more time with the Swensen (& Smith) crew! Natalie & Wes got spoiled by a "meet Wesley" party put on by her sisters earlier in the day, and then we had a big dinner at Grandma & Grandpa Smith's house. It was lots of fun to see everyone, hang out, chat, etc... It was a pleasant surprise to find out Rachel had just gotten engaged like, a half hour before, too - and engaged to a Marriott School graduate, no less. What a find!

The blessing went really well, and besides what I mentioned in the last post - we were really, really grateful for everyone that came (okay, okay . . . so some of them did come to see Craig, too) especially those who had to drive long distances!
