First Day of School 2014

The kids started school at North Star Charter Elementary on Thursday, August 21st. I was grateful that I was able to be there for the first day of school and didn't go into labor until later that evening!

The night before the first day of school, we had a "School Year's Eve" party. It was pretty low-key - just pizza and salad - but both Grandma Hanks and Grandma Swensen got to be there, too!

It was the last day of summer vacation and Wes and Sydney spent it much the same as they had every day…reading Calvin and Hobbes (for the umpteenth time).

I made little tags for the food. I did 13 foods using the alphabet and then 13 vocab words with the non-food letters. My party vision didn't really pan out the way I had in my head, but really, I didn't care since I knew I was going to have a baby any time. There's always next year!

Ruth got a head-start eating before the rest of us.

The kids with the banner. The light's not great.

A little bit better one of the kids.

First day of Kindergarten! Sydney picked a cat dress for herself.

And a Palace Pets backpack.

First day of 2nd Grade! Wes chose a Lego Movie shirt for the first day.

And a Mario backpack. The stars light up. I think that's what really sold him on the backpack.

We didn't know this would be the last picture of just the three of them! I think they're stinkin' cute.

The kids took the bus to school and then my mom and I drove over to make sure they knew where to go. We got there just as they were going in so I just gave a quick wave to Wes and made sure that Sydney was okay on her first big day! Of course they both did great!

We have to drive to pick up Sydney in the middle of the day, but Wes rides the bus home. Here are Grandma Swensen and Ruth waiting for the bus to arrive!
