On Saturday (after dropping off Minnie), we drove to DuPont State Forest to doing some family hiking. The drive is actually quite long (about 2.5 hours each way), so the kids watched a show, Brian listened to a book, and I read.
We got there around noon, so we had some lunch before setting off on our hike (walk).
I don't remember ever seeing as many butterflies as I do here in North Carolina.
The kids saw some other people with walking sticks and thus, needed their own.
We stopped at Triple Falls first. It's only about a half mile walk to get there from the road.

It's tough trying to get the kids to look and smile with the roar of a waterfall drowning out your requests.
The weather was perfect. Cool and sunny.
These kids were using the falls as a water slide. Brian thought it looked like fun, but the water was so cold. Maybe on a really hot day it'd be refreshing, but I think those kids were crazy.

As we were on our way to High Falls, Brian - the amazing nature observer - noticed a turtle along the trail and had the kids "pet" it.

Sydney and Wes were throwing leaves in the water and Sydney slipped and got her bum all wet. I set her jeans and socks out to dry. Then she needed to go potty and I guess she just decided if her underwear was already wet it didn't matter if she peed in them. Then, she was throwing another leaf and splashed face first getting her shirt all wet. She was upset at first, but we got her back to the car and got her dry clothes. Just another day in the life of a toddler!
