10 Year Roommate Reunion

From 2001 to 2002, I lived in the Liberty Square Apartments for my Sophomore year at BYU. I moved in with my Freshman roommate, Carol, and we ended up with four other great girls: Brooke, Gladriel, Kristin, and Maren. While we were all different in many ways, we had a lot of fun times and made some great memories.

Less than three months ago, I posted something about Dr. Mario on Facebook, which we used to play often in that apartment. That post prompted a spontaneous planning of a roommate reunion to San Diego. It was amazing that all six of us could get together coming from six different states (Washington, Utah, Arizona, Minnesota, New York, and California). Needless to say, we had a blast and are looking forward to doing it again in the not-too-distant future.

We went to dinner at Hodad's (as seen on The Food Network) before we picked up Gladriel from the airport (since she was coming from New York).

Even though we were stuffed from dinner, we decided we must get dessert after Gladriel arrived. We were on vacation, after all.

They were quite extraordinary desserts! Our triple chocolate mousse and carrot cake leftovers tasted better the next day when we weren't so stuffed.

After a late night of chatting, Maren was doing her best to stay asleep as long as possible. :)

After breakfast, went for a late morning hike at Torrey Pines.

It was great to have a relaxing hike and chat as we went along.

Since the sun had come out earlier, we decided to head to the beach. Unfortunately, by the time we had lunch and got our swimsuits on, it became really overcast and windy. We spent about 20 minutes at the beach before calling it quits and heading back to the hotel's hot tub.

After the hot tub, we got showered and then went to dinner. They were doing an art/music show on the street where the restaurant was. This is me and Kristin riding the "comedy bus" along Adams Ave.

I had SO much fun and look forward to when we can do it again!

Memorial Day Weekend 2012

For Memorial Day Weekend, Brian's Mom and Dad came to town for a visit. We always love having visitors!

On Friday afternoon, Craig, Brian, and Dad Hanks went on a bike ride to continue preparing for their century ride this summer.

On Saturday, we enjoyed the beautiful sun and went to the Ballard Locks. Grandpa and Grandma provided the snacks.

The kids consumed fishy crackers while we waited for all the boats to get into the Lock.

Sydney, me, and Wes patiently waiting for all of the boats before watching the locks fill up so the boats can head back to Seattle. Wes loved watching all of the boats. He now wants to be a boat captain, pilot, and a race car driver.

We went to look at the fish ladder, but there were no fish at this time of the year. Can you tell I'm climbing a ladder? I know, I'm SO clever. :)

We tried to go to a Mariners game but it was a beautiful day and Memorial Day weekend so all of the cheap seats were sold out. Luckily for the kids, Grandma supplied them with a bubble machine which they were very excited about!

On Sunday morning, Grandpa helped Wes learn how to keep his eye on the ball while he was swinging.

We also got time to hang out with Uncle Craig and Aunt Sara, which was fantastic.

And then after Grandma and Grandpa got in the car to head home, Brian helped Wes with a few more swings.
