Fat Lip

This afternoon Wes was playing with the couch cushions on the floor. A stack was piled two-high and he and Sydney would stand on it and jump off. One of the times, Wes fell and whacked his face on the edge of the couch. He started crying and when I looked up I saw a little blood and a little piece of lip-skin on the couch. Then I checked his face and saw blood coming out of his mouth. As I was cleaning him up and noticed his upper lip getting fat, I had a flashback to his first "major" spill that also resulted in a fat lip.

April 2008. Wes was 1 year (and 9 days) old. I think this one looks worse, but that might just because of face proportions. He still had chubby baby cheeks. :)

He's such a trooper. When he gets hurt, he only cries for a couple minutes then he's over it. Today he's 2 years, 10 months (and 1 day) old.

He even smiled for the camera and then wanted to see his picture.

L-M-N-O-P

The other day I was in the kitchen making lunch for the kids while they were watching a show in the living room. Wes called in to me and said, "Mom, I'm not tired." I responded with, "Huh..." knowing full well this likely meant he was very tired, but just in denial. When I checked on them, this is what Wes looked like:
I'm pretty sure he was ready for nap time.

The other day I was getting Sydney out of her booster chair and she was singing the ABC song. She got to the middle and I heard "J, K, abbababa, P". After all, that is what "L, M, N, O" sounds like, right? I thought it was hilarious and super cute, so now I prompt her to sing it so I can laugh. :) I told Brian she's kind of like Roger Rabbit in the movie where he can't help but sing the next line in the song: "two bits!" I love it.

National Countdown - 5 Weeks to Go

I can't help but wish I was actually running on a warm, sunny day on a beach somewhere. Today I officially miss summer running! Or, maybe I'm just tired of our looooong, cold Michigan winters. Not to mention the monotony of white everywhere (with an occasional hint of brown from dead trees, of course). And obviously, I'm so over being sick all the time! (I don't buy the whole "wash your hands to not get sick" thing. I wash my hands more than anyone in my family - plus I take vitamins - and I feel like I'm the one who gets sick the most.)

Over the last week, I've been getting over my congestion and sore throat. I ran on the treadmill on Wednesday. I decided to just go and see how it went. I warmed up and then ran faster in the middle (sort of like a tempo run, I guess) and then cooled down. My throat hurt even indoors so I ended up just doing 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. Not super great, but at least it was something.

On Friday I did my long run. I ended up going by myself and I had planned on doing 16 miles even though I still wasn't 100%. It went okay. I used a bandanna to cover my mouth so the cold air didn't hurt my throat so much. It worked pretty well. I ended up doing just over 15 miles because I was a little slower than I had thought I'd be and I was worried I'd run out of time since Brian had to get up to school. I was really glad I went though! I'm always glad I did it.

Weekly Goals
Monday: 5 miles at 8:41 /mi
Wednesday: 4x1600 at 6:52 /mi
Thursday: 4 miles at 8:41 /mi
Saturday: 16 miles at 8:41 /mi

Outcome
Wednesday: 2.5 miles at 12:00 /mi
Friday: 15.3 miles at 9:12 /mi

Valentine's Day 2010

I really enjoyed having Valentine's Day on Sunday this year. Brian and I got to go on a date Friday (to see a community theater production of Guys and Dolls) and Saturday (out to eat at Whole Foods, to see Valentine's Day, and then home with some white hot chocolate).

Today was a great and relaxing day. I made my favorite lemon ricotta pancakes for breakfast then we went to church. After church, I made creamy rigatoni with broccoli and brie for dunch, then Brian and I read while the kids napped. Then, we cut out and decorated my favorite sugar cookies, opened some presents, then went to have dessert at our friends' house. It was fun to focus on the kids a little more than normal for Valentine's Day!

The cookies! Wes is too busy eating to smile at the camera. Sydney is teething and thus, has a beautiful runny nose.

Opening Valentine's presents. My mom always got - and still gets - us a little something for Valentine's Day. I think it's a fun tradition. It makes you feel special, especially when you're little and don't have your own Valentine.

Wes wanted to eat his conversation hearts right away!

Sydney reading her new Mickey Mouse and Minnie ("mee-mou" and "mee" in Sydney speak) Valentine's book.

When I asked Wes who his Valentine was, he told me it was Dad and he said Sydney was mine. I still had to get a picture with my cute little boy who has thoroughly enjoyed all the treats and presents that have come along with Valentine's Day! I think he's a fan.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
