Kauai - Day 3

On Wednesday, June 16th, we went to Secret Beach, Queen's Bath, had lunch at Kilauea Bakery, and then headed to the south side of the island for a dinner cruise along the Na Pali Coast.

The Dildines, Wards, and Dad started the morning of with yoga at the hotel.

Jennie and Mike came with us to Secret Beach.

Brian and I taking a chance that a huge wave won't come and sweep us off the rock.

Hiking over the rocks to see Queen's Bath.

Brian taking a dip in the "bath".

We hiked a little further to a fresh waterfall.

Mike and Jennie sneaking a kiss among the beauty.

Natalie and Brian.

The amazing Na Pali coast.

The family reenacting a scene from "What About Bob?".

The siblings relaxing on the trampoline at the front of the boat.

Can you tell we're sisters?

Kauai - Day 2

On Tuesday, June 15th, we did some snorkeling at Ke'e beach, checked out a cave and some views, had lunch at Bubba's Burgers, and relaxed by the pool.

Brothers (in-law): Brian, Eliot, and Mike.

It's hard to tell, but we're standing in front of a cave.

There were a bunch of vines hanging outside of the cave and, of course, Brian couldn't resist playing George of the Jungle.

Then, Brian decided to do some rock climbing...in flip-flops.

One of many beautiful views.

This is the view from St. Regis in Princeville just down from the Westin (where we were staying).

Kauai - Day 1

On Monday, June 14th, Brian and I left our hotel room in Princeville, Kauai around 8:00am to hike part of the Kalalau trail. We got back around 2:00pm, ate lunch, hung out with family, had a BBQ, chatted, and then went to bed.

So picturesque!

I love how blue the water is. This is on the 2-mile trail that leads to Hanakapiai beach.

I wonder who's in charge of updating the tally...?

We crossed Hanakapiai stream a number of times on the next two miles of our hike.

A lot of people stop here at the beach, but we hiked another two miles - in the "jungle" - to see Hanakapiai Falls.

An avocado growing on the tree.

Did you know bamboo grows in bunches? Also, it sounds like it's going to crack and break when it moves.

Beautiful flowers!

The waterfall!

Brian and I navigated the rocks and swam across the cold water because, otherwise, what would have been the point of hiking four (fairly tough) miles to see it?

Kissing under the waterfall!

We went back to land and Brian decided to swim out one more time and dive in.

Hiking the four miles back. You can sort of see where we just came from, behind me on the right.

This hike gets two thumbs up from the Hanks duo!

Oahu - Days 2 and 3

On Saturday, June 12th, Brian and I hiked Diamond Head and then drove to the North Shore to see Chinaman's Hat, see BYU-Hawaii, see where I lived while I went to BYU-H for a summer, eat at the Hukilau Cafe, go snorkeling at Shark's Cove, and get shave ice at Matsumoto's.

Diamond Head entrance.

The view of Honolulu from the top of Diamond Head.

Brian and Natalie.

Brian enjoying his Matsumoto's shave ice! (I enjoyed the MJ tribute poster.)

Later that evening, we met up with my sister, Angie, and her husband, Eliot, in Waikiki to get some dinner. We had some Ono (delicious) Hawaiian Food.

On Sunday, June 13th, Brian and I hit the beach for some reading before checking out of our hotel. We then went to Pali Lookout, had lunch at Duke's Waikiki, went to see Killers, and then went to the airport to catch our plane for Kauai.

The always windy Pali Lookout.

Brian climbed this cool tree.

Yummy Hula Pie at Duke's!

Oahu - Day 1

On Friday, June 11th, Brian and I left the kids with Grandpa and Grandma Hanks and flew to Honolulu. Because of the time difference, we arrived in the afternoon and were able to hit the beach before bed time.

We had a soft-top Jeep to drive around the island.

On the "to do" list was surf lessons, so we did that first thing.

Unfortunately, it wasn't much of a lesson. The "instructor" gave us a board and told us to walk into the ocean. Then he told us to get on our boards, turned us around, told us to paddle ("Harder!"), and told us to stand up. This was my first attempt.

Brian looks good on the wave!

I didn't improve much, but I was standing. I didn't even realize my feet were totally in the wrong position.

Beautiful - and busy - Waikiki Beach!
