Wednesday, July 2nd

Brian's mom and dad flew us to Utah for the 4th of July weekend and we had a great time. Wes was definitely spoiled by his Grandma, Grandpa, aunts and uncles! We missed Kevin, Naomi, and Brooklyn since they're in Chicago for the summer, but Brian and I were glad to not be left out of this Hanks family get-together! (Since we're usually the ones who aren't there.)

We flew out Wednesday and Wes did quite well. Of course, it's great to have both Brian and I to keep track of him. We had a layover at the Denver airport so Wes got a chance to run around and entertain the other travelers. Gotta love the baby treadmill!

Note: I don't like slideshows because they don't show up in Google Reader and I never take the time to watch them anyway, so I just post all the pictures. There might be a lot of pictures, but I prefer it this way.

Grandma Hanks showing Wes the fancy li'l book that she got for him to play with. He loved that book!

Wes and his 2nd cousin Owen. They are 17 days apart. The last time these two were together was in February. Picture here.

We were at Aunt Pam's and Wes decided he didn't want to wait for us so he made his escape. Quite the Army crawler!

Great Grandpa Smith helping Wes read his book.

After we got back from visiting the Great Grandparents in Provo, Wes took a dip in the kiddie pool Grandma Hanks got for him to play in. (I told you he was spoiled!) :)

Friday, July 4th

On the morning of the 4th, we went to the Kaysville Parade. It was quite the event! People had their chairs, tents, and blankets lined up the day before. We just walked up the street about 5 minutes before the parade started. We had a great view too!

This is Brian and Wes with the Davis High School band in the background of which Brian (and each of the Hanks kids) used to be a member.

Tyler, Janna, Grandma Hanks, and Brian watching the parade. I'm not sure what Wes is watching.

Wes and Mom!

In the evening, we had a barbeque and a couple of Brian's cousins came over. Part of it was launching water balloons. Luckily, there was a couple sitting in a car in the church parking lot just over the fence so the guys had a great target! I love the expressions in this picture! In the picture are Brian's cousin, Mike, Uncle Tyler, Uncle Craig, his fiance Sara, and Brian.

Wes and Dad!

We did a few fireworks for Wes before he went to bed. This was where he watched them from - very intently, of course.

Wes and his 2nd cousin Macey who's about six months younger than he is. Brian's cousin Adam is holding her.

Adam and Brian playing ladder golf. Man! It was sure great to be able to sit outside and not sweat the whole time! I'm definitely a fan of dry summers - humidity is not so fun!

Brian and Craig had a great time playing pyros and lighting off the fireworks. We were able to see the fireworks at the high school from the Hanks' house so we didn't have to go anywhere. Awesome!

Saturday, July 5th

On Saturday morning, we all did a hike at Adam's Canyon which isn't far from the Hanks' house, so that was good. We started around 8am to beat the heat which was a really good idea! It was definitely a good challenge and work out for me and my legs were very sore the next day (and still are)! Our reward at the end was a really cool waterfall!

Wes doing a little bit of "hiking". We all traded off carrying him the whole time.

Uncle Craig and Wes checking out the stream.

Sara and Craig: the engaged couple enjoying the waterfall right before Craig went under it!

Uncle Tyler helping Wes walk on the rocks in the stream.

Brian decided to see if he could get to the top of the waterfall by rock climbing with no gear and no path. I tried not to think about him slipping and falling to his death while I watched.

He made it to the top!

He's so strong! :)

Wes and Grandpa Hanks hanging out before Wes went to bed. Wes did really well over the weekend considering he didn't get nearly as much sleep as he was used to!

Thanks again to Grandma and Grandpa Hanks for such a fun weekend! Thanks to Janna, Tyler, Craig, and Sara for making the effort to come see us, too (and yes, we do realize Wes was the main draw). :)
