On Friday morning, I left the kids and flew - by myself! - to New York to see Brian. I haven't flown alone in a long time...I almost didn't know what to do with myself!
First off, I met up with this handsome guy who luckily had a break from work right as I got there. Brian showed me around the financial district and then he headed back to work while I did a little shopping for new shoes (my feet were already having issues) at
Century 21.

After Brian was done with work, we took a walk down to
Battery Park and got a sandwich to eat as we watched the sunset with Lady Liberty in the background.

It was a beautiful evening!

On Saturday morning, after sleeping in until 8:00am, we took the subway to Times Square.

We headed to M&M World where they were having a lottery for CHEAP Shrek the Musical tickets. I figured it was meant to be that we'd win some tickets in the lottery since the drawing was held at M&M world. I also picked up a souvenir! Smashed pennies: my favorite souvenirs!

Brian was in his own little heaven. I honestly think in Brian's version of heaven, he could eat M&Ms all day without concerns for his health (and without me giving him a bad time about it).

Of course we won our 2 tickets to see the matinee of Shrek. Our seats were in the front row. It was a teensy bit close (since we had crane to see over the stage) but it was still fun and at $100 discount...I'm in! PS: Aren't my shoes great with that dress? This pair (number 3)
finally didn't give my feet grief (or blisters)!

After Shrek, we hopped on a
rickshaw to take us to our next destination. We felt pretty cool with everyone looking at us. :) This guy was really nice - he was from Turkey - and showed us some cool stuff along the route.

At one point, we happened upon this! It was pretty random. The
Manhattan New York Temple is really close to Central Park and looks pretty much like any other building. The only way we knew it was a temple was the Angel Moroni on top. Thank goodness for him! :)

The temple is behind us. It's almost like a "Where's Waldo" with the Angel Moroni.

First stop after the rickshaw ride was
GROM - authentic Italian gelato in New York. Yum! Side note: my hair was getting bigger and bigger because of the humidity and rain. I felt like Monica in the Friends episode where they go to Barbados.

Next stop was
Levain Bakery for their famous chocolate chip walnut cookies. They're huge and yummy!

We passed Gray's Papaya hot dogs of Fools Rush In fame on the walk back.

On Sunday (after sleeping in until almost 9:30am!) we met up with my long-time friend Kelly in Union Square. We had lunch at a yummy Asian restaurant called Republic.
I was sad to leave my husband and go back to reality, but I only have 11 days until I get to see him again! (And until he gets to see the kids!) I feel so lucky I got to take a weekend off to go see him.
Thanks to Lindsey, John, Heidi, Cameron and Meghan for all the help watching the kids over the weekend!
