Dinner and a Movie

Brian worked from home on Friday because he, Sydney, and I were all sick (Wes held out for a couple more days). Since all we'd done that day was go to swimming lessons, Brian had the idea of letting the kids pick out a Redbox movie and a treat from the grocery store. Then, Brian rigged up a "movie tent" and the kids got to eat their dinner in front of the TV.

Swimming Lessons

Last month we started the kids in swimming lessons at the Little Otter Swim School. It's a little bit of a drive for us, but I liked it because it was an ongoing class (unlike the YMCA summer camp types) and it's completely geared toward kids.

Wes is in a 3-year-old class (the Shiny Starfish) while I go to Sydney's toddler class (Otter Baby). (Brian's usually at work.) Both of the kids have big issues with getting water on their faces, but hopefully they'll be over that sooner than later. Wes went under once last week and wouldn't do it again this week.

Sydney has learned to hold her breath for a couple of seconds so she went under for the first time this week. I think she was pretty proud of herself even though she didn't want to do it again.

I think both kids have a fun time so hopefully they learn something and it will be worth the time/money investment!

8-9-10

August 9th, 2010 was Sydney's inverse birthday (since she was born on 10-9-08). We acknowledged it by taking this picture before she went to bed. We considered celebrating it, but it just didn't happen. However, we figured few people get to even have an inverse birthday (mine would be 81-15-12 and Brian's is 80-26-10 which don't exist; Wes' would be 7-16-04 which he wasn't born for) so we should at least take a picture to commemorate it. Here it is!

U.S. National Whitewater Center

In the afternoon on August 7th, we went to the U.S. National Whitewater Center with our friends the Phillips (whom we didn't get any pictures of). Since we had kids in tow, we just went to check it out and see if it was something we wanted to come back to. It was pretty amazing! It was like a water park, but for outdoor sports: kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, zip lining and more. We decided we'd have to go back and play sometime without the kids.

We also did a little geocaching (one find, one missing) and went to Sonic for treats after a walk around the center. It was hot!

Dad and the kids conquered the kiddie rock wall so they are showing off their muscles.

Watching the people boating the man-made rapids.

Mom and the kiddos watching the kayaks and boats float under the bridge.

Mom and Sydney.
