Baby Number Three is a Girl!

As of this past Tuesday, I am officially halfway through this pregnancy. Can I tell you how much I love the 2nd trimester more than the 1st? But, going back to the beginning...

We found out I was pregnant on June 20th (my parents anniversary, coincidentally, and 3 days before we moved from Seattle) and I've basically been sick since day one. I think the first few days/week I was for-real sick with a bug but that transitioned straight into food aversion, nauseousness, and exhaustion. This baby was rough on me and I was pretty much out for the count for all of July. I couldn't walk up the stairs without feeling the need to lay down. Unpacking my house from the move was laughable as all I could manage to do most days was lay on my bed or get myself something to eat.

I have to give major props to my kids (and Brian, of course) because they were so patient with me. The kids played by themselves almost exclusively except for when I would drag myself from my bed to make them lunch (one time directing them to get me the things from the fridge and the cupboard so I could stay seated at the kitchen table to make them a sandwich). The kids were really understanding and amazing the whole time. I felt very blessed to have such easy-going children during that time.

I feel like my stomach started poking out early, but I attribute that to the fact that I basically could only consume simple carbs and sauce (white bread w/ butter, potato w/ sour cream, pasta w/ alfredo, etc...). However, desserts sounded completely unappetizing. Brian made brownies one night...ummm...no thank you! (Thankfully, I'm over my dessert-repulsion now.) :)

I bought this big package of Gin-Gins to have something to suck on at all times (I wasn't a fan of the sugar-coated tongue I'd have after candy). I'm not sure I'll eat another one of these unless I'm ever pregnant again.

I did get to watch most of the Olympics, but sometimes I had to watch my favorite events live in the middle of the day because staying up past about 8:00pm would send me into the bathroom to throw up. (Which, as an aside, I decided the one positive thing about throwing up is that it tells your spouse that your need to drop to the floor and crawl to the bathroom mid-sentence is not actually dramatics, but a reality of pregnancy.) I also finished the whole Harry Potter series (while laying down, of course) and we watched all of the movies. So, at least I accomplished something during the first trimester even if it wasn't a beautifully clean and organized house!

On September 20th, we found out we were having a girl and luckily, both of the kids were very excited about it. Wes wanted a boy, but he is not at all disappointed that it's a girl. Both of the kids are really looking forward to having a new little sister.

Now, though, we are on to bigger (my expanding stomach) and better (a baby girl) things. I've felt mostly normal (bending over is already taxing) and I have cleaned my house, unpacked all but one box, started hanging up pictures, and easily walk the kids to school. It's almost like July never happened...almost. (I'm sure I'll forget the details with time...we always do, don't we?) I just think the 2nd trimester is pretty fantastic and I'm very happy to be halfway to meeting this little lady!

Our stretched out baby girl enjoying her cozy confines. I wonder how she will differ from the other two...?
