5th of July

Since Brian had the 5th of July off, we took the train to downtown and went to Discovery Place. We all had a great time!

Brian, Wes, and Sydney practicing their building skills.

Brian tried laying on a bed of nails. The kids wouldn't try it.

Wes playing with pulleys.

The kids playing in water.

Cutie girl in an apron.

I love the little foot crossing. :)

The 3rd and 4th of July

I thought it was a lot of fun to have Independence Day be on a Sunday this year because we got two days to celebrate!

We were invited to a "fish fry" party on the 3rd by a family in our ward. We had good southern fare: fish fry, French fries, hush puppies, mac and cheese, beans, and lots of desserts! Wes had at least three snow cones.

Sydney found herself a little table so she could enjoy her snow cone in peace.

Wes made lots of friends! I think she was a little old for him. :)

The kids spent the majority of the time hanging around the snow cone machine.

On the 4th we were invited over to the Gallagher's house (whom we'd met the night before...nice people, huh?) for a BBQ with them and the Brunsons.

Wes is sitting by Shay. Rob is standing, his daughter Evee is sitting on Britta's lap (Shay's wife). She was pregnant in this pic, but had her baby the next day!

Robyn and Sydney watching the fireworks.

Pretty exciting fireworks! :)

Later that night, after the kids were asleep, there was a fireworks show that we could see from our balcony.

Our Journey to the Swimming Pool

We live in a condo that has a pool in the complex. However, it's quite a journey to get to the pool! It's also a journey to get to the car or get the mail. We're learning to navigate the downtown condo life with two kids. I decided to document one of our trips to the pool.

After we exit our condo door, we walk down the hall to this door.

Then we walk down the hall to another door, go down the stairs, and head out the door that Brian is holding open.

We cross the bridge to the other building and head through a door where the parking garage is.

Then we either go down one floor to the pool, down two floors to the mail, or up two floors to where our car is parked.

We cross the parking garage and head through a door, pass the elevator hall and go through another door and walk down the hall to another door (that Brian is about to head out in this picture).

We finally make it to the pool! Wes has learned to use his floaties and Sydney likes to try and jump out of her swim ring. Swimming lessons are on the horizon.

Post-swim towel wrap-up for the long journey home!

Dan Nicholas Park

On June 30th, I took the kids to our ward playgroup at Dan Nicholas Park. It's a huge park that's free to get into. It has a small aquarium, climbing toys, and a water play area. You can also pay a really small fee to do things like ride the train, ride the carousel, go in the petting barn, go in the zoo, go on paddle boats, play mini golf, or go to the gem mine. It's quite awesome, I just wish it were closer than an hour away!

Sydney and Mom getting ready for our train ride.

I had to tickle Sydney to get a real smile out of her because she still hasn't figured out how to smile when I ask her to.

Riding on the train. Pretty exciting things to look at!
