Importance of Not Making Assumptions

A first grade girl handed in the drawing below for a homework assignment.

After it was graded and the child brought it home, she returned to school the next day with the following note:

Dear Ms. Davis,

I want to be very clear on my child's illustration. It is NOT of me on a dance pole on a stage in a strip joint. I work at Home Depot and had commented to my daughter how much money we made in the recent snowstorm. This sketch is of me selling a snow shovel.

Chicago Trip

Our closest relatives now live just over 4 hours away! And we're so excited! This past weekend Brian had a 2nd-round interview for an internship with Goldman Sachs in Chicago on Friday afternoon. So we made the drive as a family. While we were in the car, Brian got a call from Credit Suisse for a 2nd-round interview just north of Chicago on Saturday morning. It was a very eventful weekend! The highlight, of course, was hanging out with Kevin, Naomi, and Brooklyn.

PS: Brian is so awesome. He got offers for internships from both companies. And that's hard to do...especially in this economy!

Brian, Kevin and I P90X'd it up on Friday night. Naomi took pictures and thoroughly enjoyed watching us sweat it out.

Kevin watched the kids on Saturday while Brian was at his interview, I went running, and Naomi went to the gym. Thanks Uncle Kevin!

Wes had a grand time sitting on Brian's back while he did his perfect push ups.

Cute little Brooklyn turned 1 on January 26th. Wes showed her a trick or two while we were there. Sorry Kevin and Naomi! :)

This a pic from after we got home. Wes loves cookies. (No surprise there!) It's been a good tool to help him eat more of his dinner. Maybe not the best option, but seriously, whatever it takes to get this kid to eat! He's even eating chicken which is a Mother's Day miracle.

The following two pictures are from Christmas with the Swensen grandkids in their PJs. Wes wasn't too happy about it in the first picture. The second is the traditional "cousins in a line" picture.

Happy Groundhog's Day!

Exactly one year ago today, Brian and I were in San Diego visiting my sister and her family. We woke up early in the morning to Wes, who was 10-months-old at the time. Shortly thereafter, while everyone else was sleeping, we found out I was pregant with baby #2.

Honestly, at the time it was quite scary! We had no idea where this baby would even be born. However, if I knew then what I know now, I would not have been nearly as scared. I am so grateful Sydney came to live with our family. I know I've said it before, but she is so sweet and fun. We enjoy her so much!
