18-month and 3-year Well-Child Checks

Wes had his 3-year check up on Friday. Apparently he had an ear infection and I didn't know. I guess, looking back at the week that was likely the reason he really wanted me to clean out his ear! This is his first ear infection (to my knowledge; unless he had another one at some point that I didn't know about). He's a tough kid! Here are his stats:

Weight - 28 pounds (13th%)

Height - 36.61 inches (29th%)

BMI - 14.7 (11th%)

They also took his blood pressure for the first time. After the appointment, he kept talking about taking his blood pressure. I guess he must have thought it was pretty cool.

As for Miss Sydney, the pediatrician said she is developmentally closer to a 2-year-old than an 18-month-old. Normally they do an autism screening at this age, but the pediatrician said that she had zero concerns about Sydney having autism, so didn't even think we needed to do it. Here are her stats:

Weight - 23.06 pounds (29th%)

Height - 33.66 inches (93rd%)

Head - 18.7 nches (75th%)

Standing side-by-side, Wes would have more than 3 inches on Sydney, but they do the laying down height measurements for 18-month-olds which lengthens her a bit. The pediatrician said she may pass Wes up in height, which we have figured would happen eventually!

Birthday Song Plus

Here are some bonus pictures of Wes from after his birthday. I also put up his birthday song video.

The day after Wes' birthday, he was running too fast in his running shoes and smacked his face on the pavement. He got a bloody nose and has some sweet scabbing going on. I guess I'm going to hold off on his 3-year pictures!

The traditional birthday picture with Dad. Link here to his 2-year picture.

The birthday song! Sydney can sing happy birthday but chose not to at this moment. :)

Wes' 3rd Birthday!

Here are the pictures to document Wes' big day! It was nice that Brian didn't have class or tests on Friday, so he was home to spend the whole day with us and Wes to celebrate. It was a rare treat indeed!

We let Wes open one present in the morning (from Sydney) since it was his "birthday boy" shirt to wear for the day. He also got a special breakfast of Lucky Charms. You can maybe see all the marshmallow charms are gone and the "luckies" (as we call them) still remain.

Giving Sydney kisses for the present.

After playing outside in the morning, we went to Cake Nouveau to get Wes' free birthday cupcake which we split four ways so he wouldn't have too much sugar. He's licking the plate clean. After this, we went to the library. It doesn't take much to please a 3-year-old!

After naps/quiet time (around 3:00pm) we had pizza for dunch/linner and then did cake and presents.

Wes is a typical boy and loves things with wheels! I called it the "planes, trains, and automobiles" cake.

What it looked like underneath. For months, Wes kept telling me he wanted a green cake. Even when I was making it he said, "Mom, is that cake for my birthday?" I told him yes. Then he said, "Is it going to be green?" How could I disappoint him? :)

Wes got a total of four dollars for his birthday. Lucky kid! I'm sure he'll spend it on a train or candy. :)

Wes always wants to go running with Brian and me. Actually, according to him he often needs to go running with us. We told him he didn't have running shoes, so for his birthday we got him his own. (We bought them in February, so his desire to run with us has been going on for a while.) The greatest part is, they're red and white Nikes just like mine and Brian's.

Wes was excited about his new running shoes and runs really fast and hops and zig-zags when he's wearing them. He thinks he's so cool and fast now! :)

The new book he got from Dad - a tradition in our little family.

Sydney was really interested in Wes' book of trains, cars, trucks, etc. Maybe someday she'll be into "girly" things. :)

The BIG present he'd be waiting for. This wasn't really a surprise because Wes knew he was going to get it. He'd been telling us for quite a while that he was getting GeoTrax for his birthday. Luckily his mom and dad thought that was a good idea too!

Kisses for Mom!

Setting up the GeoTrax!

Wes was in heaven with his new toy and has played with it nearly constantly since he opened it. We had to leave the evening of his birthday for the ward talent show and as we were leaving Wes said, "Good bye, trains! I love you!" I think that's a great sign of a successful present. :)
